The Blue Mountain Lake Association (BMLA) has been a cornerstone of community life in the Adirondack Park for over 50 years. This dedicated group of volunteers works tirelessly to preserve the natural beauty of Blue Mountain Lake and its surrounding waters, while also enhancing the economic, cultural, and physical well-being of the town.

Regrettable decisions at the federal level have hurt the Adirondacks, as well as everyone who lives in the Northeast. The Council has been working on clean air for the Adirondack Park for decades, and some of that work has been undone recently by the Supreme Court.

The Adirondack Council is pleased to announce it will present its 2024 Conservationist of the Year as Northeast Wilderness Trust at its Forever Wild Day celebration on July 13. The Council will also present its environmental and justice activist, Benita Law-Diao, with its Special Recognition Award at Forever Wild Day.

Here is the letter the Council submitted to the state DEC regarding projects that can be funded by the 2022 environmental bond act. The communities of the Adirondacks, and the people of New York, will benefit by providing funding for different types of infrastructure projects that the bond act can offer.

The state Senate and Assembly have passed the Wildlife Crossing Act, which directs the Department of Transportation to identify good places for wildlife crossings. This is great news for wildlife and people in the Empire State. The Council will continue advocating until Gov. Kathy Hochul signs it into law.

In 1894, delegates to a constitutional convention in New York created what, 130 years later, is still one of the most important and enduring conservation ideals ever enshrined. We are still benefiting from that simple, two sentence clause today.

This past winter, Scouts from New York City, many of whom have Jamaican heritage, got to experience the Adirondacks. They learned about the Park, met with the Jamaican bobsled team, and visited historic and educational sites.

The Essex Farm Institute, a program of the Adirondack Council, is celebrating Earth Week by announcing the ninth annual farm grants to Adirondack farmers and businesses. In 2024, the grants will help bees, pay for dam removal, increase composting, and reduce fossil fuel use among the 16 grant recipients.
